1 cup Butter
1/2 c. white sugar
Cream together until smooth.
1/2 c. cool water
Add as food processor is running; or, little at a time if mixing by hand.
4 cups unbleached white flour, sifted
1 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
2 1/2 tsp. Cardamon Seeds ~ ground in spice grinder or mortar & pestle ~ until fairly fine. Could use cardamon powder, but you would loose the crunch.
Sift together, then blend with the above mixture until combined.
Roll into 2 tubes, each about 1 1/2 ” in diameter ~ or to your taste. Wrap in Saran wrap. Refrigerate until well chilled.
350 – 375 degree oven.
Cut into 1/8 to 1/4″ discs. Place on parchment-lined cookie sheet.
Bake 10 minutes. Turn pan. Continue baking until golden on the edges. They will taste “raw” if not baked thoroughly.
They are so delicious! I thank a dear Nordic friend for this traditional recipe. Imagine sitting somewhere in Scandinavia, overlooking snow covered hills, with a hot cup of coffee and a plate of these yummy morsels right at hand!!
